Live Blogging the Tourney

It is a beautiful Saturday, as The Ship pulls in to a dark, dingy bar for the day. Follow all the action here, while we sit inside Flannery's.

As predicted, John and Rich faced off against each other following the "blind draw". Frustrating, as an all Ship finals was much anticipated. Rich prevailed in two games, but John put up a fierce fight in Cricket, as he battled to the end. On to round two, as John goes home for a nap.

Rich cheated handsomely, but we don't need to dwell on that, as it would seem like crocodile tears! I'm just happy the ship is still afloat and I can enjoy a libation or two in wait for doubles!

And Rich chokes his way to a Round 2 loss. Very uneventful two games that could have gone our way... but didn't.

And on to doubles... Rich / John are paired and Fred / Turner will team up. Loser buys at Bone Lick... or winner buys. We'll see.

The doubles tourney featured slightly more action than Singles. Fred / Turner were violently bounced in round one. One could even say they were tossed right out of the competition. Rich / John received a first-round BYE, and proceeded to stroll into the finals with a sweep in the second round.

The finals were truly a worthy showing. The best-of-five format helped The Ship, as Rich / John dropped the first two games. Despite a nearly monumental comeback in D501 (32 left despite not doubling-in for about 10 rounds), things were looking bleak for our squad. Their backs were to the wall, but they responded with strong wins in the second set of D501 and Cricket. The Ship got to choose the final game, and selected D501. Things looked bad, as our opponents doubled-in right away. But we answered and it was neck-and-neck all the way down the board, including a ton-60 from Braley. Both teams were all over the doubles, but just couldn't hit. It was fitting that both teams ended up on double-1, but The Ship could not prevail. Still, we walked away with $40 of BBQ money and a trophy for being the second-best C-division doubles team in the NYDO.

Now let's go get a goddamn snack!
